Understanding Age Calculator for Students

Student age calculations may be needed when a form asks for age on a specific eligibility date rather than age today. Enter the birth date and the date on which age should be measured. This tool counts completed calendar years, then completed calendar months and then the remaining days. Calendar months have unequal lengths, so dividing a total day count by thirty does not produce an exact calendar age. This implementation uses a month-end convention: when an anniversary day does not exist in a shorter month, it uses that month's last day. A February twenty-ninth birthday therefore uses February twenty-eighth in a non-leap year. The convention is stated beside the result because official eligibility rules can choose a different legal anniversary. A birth date after the selected measurement date is invalid. The tool also shows total elapsed days as a useful independent check, but that day count is not converted into approximate years.

Admission and scholarship rules may specify a different leap-day convention or inclusive cutoff date. Verify the provider policy before relying on an eligibility age.

Formula

Age = completed calendar years + completed calendar months + remaining calendar days

Worked example

Birth date 2000-02-29, measured on 2023-02-28: 23 years, 0 months, 0 days under the stated month-end convention.
