Understanding CGPA Calculator

Cumulative grade point average summarizes academic performance across the terms included in your institution's rules. When terms carry different numbers of credits, the cumulative result should usually be weighted by those credits. Enter each semester average as a grade point value and the credits represented by that average. Alternatively, enter individual course grade points and credits, but do not mix course rows with semester rows that already contain those courses. Every grade point must lie within the maximum scale you select. The calculator multiplies each point by its credit weight, adds those products and divides by all included credits. This preserves the relative contribution of larger semesters. It is different from averaging semester averages without considering credits. Retakes, transfer credits and pass-only courses may be included or excluded under local regulations. Use your official transcript to determine which records belong in this calculation, and retain unrounded semester averages whenever they are available.

This is a credit-weighted calculation, not a universal transcript policy. Rounded semester averages can introduce small differences from a registrar calculation using individual course records.

Formula

CGPA = sum(grade point × credits) ÷ sum(credits)

Worked example

Semester 1: 8 × 20; semester 2: 9 × 10. CGPA = 250/30 = 8.33 on a 10-point scale.
