Understanding Final Grade Calculator

The final grade calculator works backward from a desired overall result to the score needed on one remaining final assessment. Enter your current grade as an average over the completed work, not as a contribution already multiplied by its weight. Then enter the percentage of the course already completed and the final examination weight. Those two weights must total one hundred. The tool first calculates the contribution secured by completed work, subtracts it from the desired overall grade and divides the difference by the final exam fraction. A required score above one hundred means the target is not reachable under the stated scoring limits. If the completed contribution already secures the target, the minimum needed is zero. This is a planning calculation rather than a promise about a future grade. Separate pass requirements, minimum exam marks or mandatory attendance can apply even when the weighted overall result reaches your chosen target.

A weighted target does not override a separate minimum exam score or attendance rule. The final weight must be positive.

Formula

Required final score = (desired overall − current grade × completed weight / 100) ÷ (final weight / 100)

Worked example

Current 80%, completed weight 60%, final weight 40%, target 85%: (85 − 48)/0.4 = 92.5%.
